“Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.”
–James Cash Penney
A picture says a thousand words. In October of 2013, PCK cooked its first meal for our first clients, pictured on the left. We had five teens in the kitchen and delivered to 6 clients including two families.
As a board at that time, we weren’t certain how long this organization would last. We believed in the beauty of our mission, and we hoped the community would see the need for our services. But, we had minimal amount of funds in our bank account. We were uncertain on how to involve more teen and adult volunteers, and we were having difficulty recruiting clients.
Three and half years later, every week we served 60 clients, delivering to over 30 households. Starting in the spring, we will have three staff members who coordinate our kitchen, volunteer and garden management. We have an average of about 20 volunteers every day in the kitchen, the majority of these being teen chefs learning the benefits of cooking healthy food.
Building this organization has been a process. It’s involved thousands of man-hours volunteered by many generous individuals. It’s a story shared by many.
These pictures not only depict the amount of work we’ve done to build this organization, but also depict the amount of generous community support we’ve received through the years. Our work is just that … OUR work. It’s about building a community that supports each other. If you have volunteered time or donated money to PCK, we thank you. It is a wonder to witness the power of purpose. Like minds sharing a common goal and mission can grow great things.
Sending You a Thousand Thanks,
President of the Board of Directors
